Alice says: “I have a tanzanite in my own engagement ring as it has such a magnificent back story. I find it suits couples who fall in love with the enigmatic colouring as much as those who love its representation of adventure and travelling.”

Demonstrate your love with a tanzanite engagement ring, the gemstone with its own unique story.
Tanzanite is a truly spectacular gemstone, found in the foothills of Kilimanjaro.
It has an unrivalled tone of blue and purple hues and is best when chosen in soft rounder shapes like oval and pear.

Tanzanite is very rare and can be found in the hills of Merelani, in northern Tanzania. Consequently there is only enough tanzanite in the ground to last another twenty years!
Tanzanite has a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7 and is therefore considered durable enough to be worn in most types of jewellery. The dark blue stone is often mistaken for sapphire and generally the larger the tanzanite, the deeper the colour. Tanzanites are routinely heat treated to produce their colour. Generally, it should be assumed that the tanzanites we supply have been heat treated too, unless specified otherwise.
