Onyx is the birthstone for February, so if that month is your birthday then onyx is for you.

This black gemstone came into fashion during the Victorian era as memorial jewellery but we do sometimes get asked to make black engagement rings using onyx. As it is a soft gemstone (between 6.5 and 7 on the “Mohs” scale) it can chip so care must be taken
