Sterling silver Cross of St Alban pendant on a Sterling silver curb linked 18 inch chain. The approximate length of the pendant is 27mm by 12mm at the widest part.
This pendant is designed by Harriet Kelsall and is based on the distinctively shaped 3rd Century Cross of St. Alban. It is available in sterling silver or gold.
The unique cross was brought here by Amphibalus, a fugitive Christian priest.
During the persecution of Christians in the mid third century, Alban, a prominent citizen sheltered the priest, who converted Alban to Christianity and gave him the cross. The two exchanged clothes as a disguise, but both were eventually executed on the site of the present Abbey Church. His cross may be seen there in sculpture, stained glass, needlework and silver.
