Bringing Fantasy Literature To Life for Mel

Mel's Fairtrade 9ct yellow gold engagement ring is features a pear cut blue spinel, which is end only set as the central focal point. A pear cut pale blue sapphire, and marquise cut Swiss blue topaz are end only set around it. Finally, delicate round cut forest green tourmaline and round cut chrome tourmaline complete the eye-catching, sentimental combination. The band is an open twist leading into the shoulders where the illusion of two strands weaving together is created with mixed finishes. One strand being a Tunstall while the other is polished.

Dave and Mel's Story

Dave wanted an engagement ring for Mel that was inspired by their shared love for a particular fantasy collection of books.

Whilst the stones appear to be randomly scattered, their placement is in fact carefully chosen, where the settings and metal shaping subtly reflect a particular rune within the stories they love. The meaning of the rune, resembled in the orientation of the gemstones, connects with the meaning of their union- that it is a special bond between two people that cannot be broken. A form of love that lasts forever.

The gemstones themselves are also chosen specifically for their literary links, where the flashes of colours are well thought out and meaningful. Together they reflect an array of personal characteristics, that amongst other elements include: Orange for empathy and sensitivity; green for wildness, adaptability and nurture; yellow for clear thinkers with emotion and intellect in balance, those who are wise and cheerful and blue for orderly, inquisitive and rational thinkers.

The choice of 9ct yellow gold was another book reference, where the blending of gold with copper and zinc was an important feature given the implications it had to the wearers. Copper is said to allow the wearer to store and access happy memories; gold and silver allow the wearer to reveal their past and future selves. To look back allows them to reflect and grow, realising their own strength to overcome struggles whilst looking forward gives insight into the direction they are heading, to take control of their future.

The final piece is an utter masterpiece that tells a complete story of the couple and their union.
