Find out more about the pear cut

Pear cut diamonds are often referred to as ‘tear-drops’ and are rounded at one end and tapered at the other. The stone is a blend of a round brilliant and a marquise, which creates an elegant and feminine shape.

The shape of the teardrop has 56-58 facets throughout its length and its width and the ideal proportions of the stone are generally thought to be when the length is about 1½ times the width.

The diamond is generally worn with the narrow end pointing towards the hand of the wearer and due to the elongated shape of the stone it makes shorter fingers appear longer.

In order to protect the fragile tip of a pear cut gemstone, a three claw setting is advisable.
