Popping the question can be rather daunting when faced with the myriad of ring choices. It’s not unusual to spend hours scouring the internet and shops.

Perhaps your partner has a manual job and needs something hard wearing. Or maybe they are not used to wearing jewellery, so prefer something delicate and subtle. Maybe traditional isn’t their vibe, and you want coloured gemstones to match their energy. Or, quite simply, you look at rings and think  “it just isn’t them”.

This is what often leads people to the world of bespoke engagement rings. At HK Bespoke we listen to your ideas, and find ways to incorporate personality, interests and the love you share. For more than 25 years we’ve worked on fascinating commissions. Particularly, we hand carve, cast and engrave people’s inspirations. Here are some popular ideas:

  • Animals- pet paw prints, favourite or significant animals.
  • Patterns- geometric, gothic, historical, religious or reflecting your culture.
  • Scenery- favourite places, buildings or co-ordinates from where you met.
  • Nature- Mountains, oceans, meadows, unusual flowers, coastlines or the sky.
  • Writing- a sentimental phrase, co-ordinates or a favourite quote.

Within these unique features, another popular way of making an unusual engagement ring is the way it’s crafted. For example, gemstones don’t always have to be central. They could be scattered; set asymmetrically or offset in a “Toi et Moi”. The band can also be modified, perhaps an open cage, dual metal so as to appear like they are stacked or made with twists and weaves.

Nick climbed Mount Everest and, while up the snow-capped summit, secured a vial of water which he brought back with him. He had a grand request … to secure it in the most extraordinary engagement ring. Between designer and  our talented goldsmiths, the ideal concept was achieved to set the water behind a deep blue sapphire. The ring is a phenomenal reminder of their union.

Ian wanted a truly unique engagement ring for partner Ariana to capture all the things she loved, as well as colour with sparkle. It features a nod to Celtic design, the lotus flower and Welsh love spoons that match her pendant- the first gift he ever bought her. It is set in rose gold with a vibrant lime peridot at the centre and diamonds in the intricate detailing surrounding it.

Simon came in to design a creative engagement ring inspired by the Bird of Paradise flower. He proposed to Miska with presentation sketches. Then, once we had sourced a selection, they chose the gemstones together. They decided on pear cut yellow sapphires, marquise cut blue sapphires and a brilliant round cut diamond, set in polished Fairtrade Certified rose gold. It is structurally as incredible as the flowers that inspired it.

Kerry wanted a special engagement ring for her firefighter partner. It was important the ring was durable, practical and reflected the couple’s love of nature. Designer Francesca hit all the marks with a platinum band that had 3 dimensional wildflower shapes and a lilac organic sapphire. Importantly, she chose an all-around setting, which is ideal to avoid it snagging on anything. Kerry’s final touch was “Every Mountain Together” engraved within the band with a diamond set alongside it. The end result was a perfect, sentimental piece that could be worn as often as possible in her manual job!
