Christine's gecko inspired engagement and wedding ring set
Christine loves geckos and natural forms, so I sketched out a series of flowing engagement and wedding ring designs that fitted nicely together but also worked well alone. She was keen to have a pear shaped sapphire with greeny blue tones and after a bit of searching we found this 7.4 x 5.4mm (1.02ct) stunner. The warmth of the 9ct rose gold in the engagement ring is emphasised by the addition of a pair of diamonds invisibly set into the band which came from Christine's family. The curling wedding ring is made in 18ct white gold and set with a heat treated blue diamond to reflect the colours in the first ring. Heat treated diamonds are heated at very high temperatures and pressures to achieve this permanent colour change. Natural occurring diamonds of this colour are very rare and costs many thousands of pounds and so this treatment process brings these coloured diamonds within reach. This also means that the ring must not be heated up to very high temperatures, for eg by a jeweller during a resize, so special care needs to be taken when resizing this ring in the future and the stones must be carefully removed and re-set during any future resizing work.
