Sue wanted a cabochon cut ruby in her engagement ring
Jason initially came into the Cambridge studio to discuss ideas for an engagement ring for Sue, he had a few examples of other designs she had seen on our website that she liked. We used these ideas as a starting point and came up with a few different options, it became clear that sourcing some cabochon cut rubies for the main stone was the way to go. Sue also came along for the stone viewing and we finalised the whole design together. Jason and Sue chose this 5mm (1.01ct) round cabochon cut ruby which we have set in an all around setting which adds to the modern feel of the design. The ring has been made in 18ct white gold, at the widest point it measures around 4mm wide where it then tapers and curls in opposite directions giving the ring a fluid and asymmetric look. To keep the ring practical we have increased the depth of the shoulders so there is a smooth transition between the central setting and the shank. For an additional detail, and for extra sparkle there is a 1.5mm and a 1.2mm brilliant cut H Si diamons which has been invisibly set into a recessed area on the shoulder which has a matte finish to make the diamonds stand out from the rest of the ring with a contrasting and highly polished finish.
