Palladium swiss mountain flower inspired dress ring
Sue came in for the appointment and had her grandmother's ring with her, which had a lovely 5mm diamond in it. She wanted to use this in the commission but didn't want anything that stood out too much, so together we designed this gorgeous ring which is inspired by the Swiss mountain flowers and trees. The ring was made using our CAD program and was cast and then hand worked on. The ring has been made in palladium which gives it a bright white colour. Sue's grandmother's diamond sits centrally, flush set into the ring where it deepens to the front to allow for the diamonds depth. The diamond is a lovely 0.47ct in size and is around 5mm wide. Around the diamond are two 1.2mm and two 1.5mm H Si diamonds, a 2mm purple sapphire, a 2mm pink sapphire, a 1.75 blue sapphire and a 1.5mm heat treated green/blue sapphire, all brilliant cut which are scattered set along with fern and stem engraving to give the ring a meadow feel. Finally the ring has been polished to a high shine which brings out the sparkle in all of the stones. The heat treated sapphires are heated at very high temperatures and pressures to achieve this permanent colour change. This also means that the ring must not be heated up to very high temperatures, for eg by a jeweller during a resize, so special care needs to be taken when resizing this ring in the future and the stones must be carefully removed and re-set during any future resizing work.
