Paul's 9ct rose gold wedding ring with invisibly set stones
Paul wanted to include seven specific colours in his wedding ring. The band is 7mm wide and has a courting profile; invisibly set into Paul's wedding ring are seven 2mm brilliant cut stones which are equally spaced around the ring in the following order: heat treated black diamond, red spinel, magenta sapphire, blue sapphire, heat treated ocean blue diamond, green tsavorite garnet, and a yellow sapphire. Paul's unusual wedding ring has been finished off with a high polish. These heat treated diamonds are heated at very high temperatures and pressures to achieve this permanent colour change. Natural occurring diamonds of this colour are very rare and costs many thousands of pounds and so this treatment process brings these coloured diamonds within reach. This also means that the ring must not be heated up to very high temperatures, for eg by a jeweller during a resize, so special care needs to be taken when resizing this ring in the future and the stones must be carefully removed and re-set during any future resizing work. The ring has then been given a highly polished finish.
