Barbara's engagement ring incorporating her own opal and diamonds

Barbara had an opal and diamond ring that she liked the idea of re-designing to make it into an engagement ring. She loved designs with a bit of movement, but for practical reasons also wanted the ring to fit alongside a straight wedding ring - opals are quite soft stones so need a bit more TLC than other gems. We came up with this asymmetric design, where the band curls around each side of the opal to hold the diamonds. The opal is set at an angle to enhance the sense of flow and the setting has been undercut very slightly so that it will fit over the wedding ring later.
