Commissioned eternity ring with white and heat-treated black diamonds
This lovely, wishbone shaped eternity ring was commissioned by Graham and Helen, who also had a pair of matching cufflinks made. The ring is 3mm wide and has a flat profile; we have matched the depth at the sides to that of her engagement ring and deepened it towards the front slightly so thet there is enough metal to be able to invisibly set 5 stones. The stones are all brilliant cut diamonds; the black ones are heat treated to be permanantly that colour. The infinity symbols engraved around the 1.5mm stones are repeated all the way round the ring to add further, symbolic detail. The creamy colour of the 9ct white gold has been emphasised by satinising it. Photographed with Helen's own engagement and wedding ring. Coloured diamonds like this get their beautiful colours when they are heated at very high temperatures and pressures to achieve this permanent colour change. Natural occurring diamonds of this colour are very rare and cost many thousands of pounds and so this treatment process brings these coloured diamonds within reach. This also means that the ring must not be heated up to very high temperatures (eg by a jeweller during resizing of the ring) so special care needs to be taken when resizing this ring in the future and the stone must be carefully removed and re-set during any future resizing work.
