Fairtrade 9 carat yellow gold and sterling silver sun and moon pendant inspired by the Adinkra symbol for Harmony
To mark Fairtrade Fortnight we have created this special pendant. At the heart of the 2019 campaign is female cocoa farmers and their need for a living income to become a reality so that they can pay for essentials such as clothing, medicine and schools. Fairtrade helps to make cocoa farming in places like Ghana more sustainable by guaranteeing minimum prices and providing a premium to invest in local communities. Adinkra symbols are printed on traditional craft and fabrics in Ghana and are the inspiration for this pendant. The design is inspired by “Osram ne Nsoromma” which translates to “The Moon and the Star” and is symbolic of love, faithfulness and harmony. It is based on the proverb "Kyekye pe aware." (The North Star has a deep love for marriage. She is always in the sky waiting for the return of the moon, her husband.) This mixed metal pendant hangs on a multi-strand chain and combines a Fairtrade 9 carat yellow gold sun at 18 inches and a Fairtrade sterling silver moon at 20 inches. A polished finish completes this celebratory pendant.
