Primrose Inspired Mixed Metal Necklace with Diamonds, Sapphires, Aquamarines and Tourmaline
Handmade in palladium and 9ct yellow gold, this necklace is the ‘Masterpiece’ and final project of our previous Diamond Mounter Apprentice under the auspices of The Goldsmiths’ Company Apprenticeship Scheme. The necklace was designed by Harriet Kelsall and Rebecca Howarth, the timing of which coordinated with the opening of our Primrose Hill Studio & Shop so the primrose flower, which is one of the early signs of spring, is the inspiration behind the piece. A beautiful selection of gemstones, chosen for their complementary pastel colour palette completes the spring theme. The necklace features over 100 round cut G-H, VS1-2 diamonds which have an approximate weight of 1.9ct and have been thread and grain set within the sweeping palladium shapes and within the stylised primrose flower.
The centre of each 9 carat yellow gold primrose flower has been claw set with a round cut yellow sapphire, one weighing 0.12ct and the other weighing 0.14ct.
Hanging delicately at the bottom of the pendant on 9 carat yellow gold chain is a pale green pear shaped tourmaline set within three claws. The richly coloured stone weighs 3.22ct and measures 11.3 x 6.8mm.
Within the smaller palladium section, a 1.63ct pear cut green aquamarine has been claw set in 9 carat yellow gold, whilst the larger palladium section features a 2.07ct pear cut blue aquamarine, also claw set within 9 carat yellow gold.
The articulated necklace is in two parts which are secured together with an 18 carat white gold screw- a feature that adds a sense of fluidity to the design so that the piece moves with the wearer.
The necklace is fastened with a handmade barrel snap.
