What Gemstone Is Pink
Jewellery Designer Betty explores different pink gemstone options and offers advice on which is best for different bespoke jewellery.
There’s something about a pink gemstone that exudes romance and elegance. Initially, pink can be seen as brave or a “particular taste”, with visions of bright pink. However, there is a whole spectrum of pink tones and with it a selection of gemstones to fall in love with. But what gemstones?
Diamond
Starting with the most infamous, pink diamond is often the first to spring to mind, especially in the case of an engagement ring. It’s of course “the” gemstone for proposals and comes with its own endearing qualities and status.
But some of our favourite hues come in the form of sapphire, and perhaps lesser-known tourmaline and morganite.
Sapphires
These come in all colours of the rainbow, which of course includes pink. It’s a classic gemstone that is understandably popular, given its history and colour versatility. We find this is the choice when you want to achieve an intense pink tone. Another bonus, it’s a 9 on the Mohs scale which means it can stand daily wear. Plus, it looks fabulous in any metal colour.
Tourmaline
This is said to bring calmness to whoever wears it and has a beautiful array of bright and blush tones. A popular choice is a bicolour, which is more unusual with an ombre effect of brighter to pale pink hues. Alternatively, you could opt for a vivid pink that is sure to make a statement on its own, or pair well with diamonds.
Morganite
Finally (and one of our favourites at HK Bespoke) is Morganite. It’s famous for its blush pink to peach tones- and there really is no colour quite like it. It’s said to connect to the heart, drawing love and compassion to the wearer. Aside from aesthetics and meaning, it has many qualities which make it a great choice. Namely that it’s a 7-8 on the Mohs scale and is moderately priced compared to pink diamonds or sapphires. If this is the one for you, there’s so much to consider to make your morganite design both beautiful and special.
Knowing you want a pink gemstone in your jewellery is a great starting point. The design details can always come as a second, especially once the right stone has been sourced just for you.
