Transforming Jewellery
Experience the wonder of transforming jewellery. Discover how a single piece can change its identity based on how it's worn or paired with other pieces.
I love jewellery that can transform itself. By this I mean that I am intrigued how one piece of jewellery’s identity can change dramatically purely by how it is worn, or even by what other pieces it is worn with. This thought struck me whilst watching a programme on all of the wonderful jewellery Elizabeth Taylor collected throughout her lifetime; the ‘Taylor-Burton Diamond’ in particular was one of the many pieces that really stood out to me. Not only is this stunning pear cut diamond a whopping 69.42 carats, it can also transform from a stunning diamond ring, to an impressive diamond pendant! Although we don’t have such a large diamond piece here in the Cambridge studio at the moment, we do have a set of rings in particular that can transform depending on the way you wear them…
The ring featured in the photo is one of our engagement ring, eternity ring and wedding ring sets, designed by our senior designer here in the Cambridge studio, Alice, create a striking cluster of diamonds when all three rings are worn together. However, separately each ring tells a different story.
The engagement ring, when worn on its own, has a delicate and simple feel to it, and is by all means a classic solitaire engagement ring, holding a 4mm, 0.24 carat, brilliant cut H Si diamond. Also like in many classic designs, the sparkling diamond sits high in a delicate six claw setting, on top of the 2.5mm wide natural 9ct white gold band which has been highly polished.
The wedding ring and eternity ring however have a totally different, almost Art Deco look to them. Both have a simple 2mm wide, highly polished, natural 9ct white gold band with a semi-circular overlaid section on top. The crisp polished edges on the overlaid detail surround three pave set 1.2mm brilliant cut H Si diamonds; this style of setting creates a beautiful effect, and gives the illusion of lots of twinkling diamonds clustered together. This overlaid detail is also where the transforming ability of the rings really occurs!
When the all three rings are worn together they connect to create an amazing cluster style ring. The central diamond on the engagement ring fits perfectly in the centre, due to two small jigsaw cut out sections on the wedding and eternity ring bands and the perfectly shaped, handcrafted overlaid details. It also becomes set flush into the semicircular shaped details, keeping it surrounded and protected, and truly transforming the appearance of a once simple classic engagement ring.
Although they do all fit together so perfectly, there is nothing to say that each ring can’t be worn separately – each ring is also truly beautiful on its own, and they all work together no matter what combination you choose to wear them in, together or separately! If you’re around Cambridge pop in and say hello, we’d be delighted to show you this ring and you can see for yourself the many different ways you can wear it!
