Reusing Gemstones
Is it time to rejuvenate your jewellery and reuse your gemstones in a new design?
Jewellery lifts an outfit, reflects your style and sometimes has a whole history. No matter how old it is, we believe unworn pieces should be admired the way they were intended. Plus, there’s something special about creating something new that ties together all the connections and memories your gemstones have.
Ethically, this also means no new mining has taken place, which is something else we’re big advocates of. We know it’s virtually impossible to know where the stones have come from, but there is a sense that the previous owner has taken the brunt of the environmental cost.
If you’re looking to reuse your own new or a preloved diamond, that has been bought in the last 5 years, we need to see the Kimberley Process documentation or any other paperwork you may have.
If you want to source your diamonds elsewhere, we require a written guarantee from your supplier, showing the stone is conflict-free. Any reputable supplier will have no problem giving you this.
With diamonds that are more than 5 years old, we’re happy to see how we could incorporate them in your bespoke piece. With this timeframe, we appreciate there’s often a reduced chance of tracking paperwork, and prior to 2003 there were no Kimberley Process guarantees in place.
So, if you’re ready to reuse gemstones from your existing engagement ring or piece of jewellery, let us know. You can send us a picture, or if you are local to one of our studios and shops, bring it to our expert team to have a look at. Then you can start discussing your bespoke possibilities.
