After joining Harriet Kelsall Bespoke Jewellery in 2016 as a Design Assistant, Alec’s expertise quickly progressed.

With each commission, his innovation undoubtedly flourished and in 2018 moved into a senior role. Since then, he’s worked on 100s of commissions, redesigns and repairs with people both nationally and internationally.

His creative career path started with a degree in Design for Film & Television at Nottingham Trent University in 2011. Here, he learnt about the world of contemporary design for example creating personalised props for individual characters. By managing scenic design projects, from initial ideas through to realisation, he became well prepared for a career in bespoke jewellery design!

Throughout his education and career, Alec’s remained fascinated by technical drawings, particularly when challenging his own 3-dimensional mind. This translates into his design skills, unlike some he can visualise even the smallest inspiration. Be it a flower, gemstone or pattern for instance, he joins specific attributes for phenomenal sketch on the page. Before becoming the final piece, he sees how it’ll be worn and tells a person’s story or personality.

Above all, Alec loves working in an environment where he can connect with the people he’s designing for. Aside from experiencing the emotional sentiment behind each piece, sharing the design journey together is unparalleled. Essentially, nothing compares to being a designer and witnessing initial sketches become a wholly unique piece, made just for that person.
