Goldstone
Fall in love with Goldstone, a manmade gem that exudes elegance and charm. Discover how this stone is created and how to use it in jewellery.
I just wanted to share with you one of my other favourite semi precious stones which I love to wear in quite a lot of my dress jewellery. The stone I would like to share with you all today is Goldstone.
Goldstone is a manmade stone which is made from smelted Feldspar and copper filings, which can often be mistaken from a very similar looking stoned named sunstone. This particular stone is made from molten glass in a furnace where copper salts are added. With such a high temperature this intense heat smelts the copper salts back to copper which will then crystallize, which gives them gemstone such a glamorous sparkle making it a very special stone, and particularly the reason for being one of my favourites. The original glass used within the above technique can vary from other colours such a golden colour, to also a blue/green colour with the copper salts still staying the same colour.
The manufacturing process for goldstone was originally discovered in the 16th century in Venice by a family named the Miotti family. Goldstone was originally created by a group of Benedict monks who produced the earliest from we name goldstone to date. During the 50’s and the 60’s professor Sugi from Japan helped these monks refine this process whilst creating four colour varieties. The original colour which was developed initially were brown, bright yellow, bright green, and blue. In the 70’s both the green and yellow variety of goldstone were dropped. The majority of goldstones nowadays is produced in China to the highest standards that were previous thought possible.
The reason behind goldstone being such a popular stone and see in a variety of dress jewellery is due to its highly valued beautiful sparkle which is often cut in forms of beads and cabochons. Goldstones isn’t the hardest wearing out of the semi precious stones with a hardness of 5 which means it’s not to practical for any form of jewellery which may be worn on a daily basis, so even through it’s a truly beautiful stone for its sparkle it wouldn’t be very practical for an engagement ring where the stone would get a lot of wear.
Goldstone is believed to store energy for those who touch it, making it an excellent gift for loved ones who are far away. It’s transmitter stone which causes light to pass though you in order to convey or receive a medium. It is also said to be revitalising and an energising stone, which encourages a very positive attitude and is very calming and refreshing. Being such a high copper present stone it has a variety of metaphysical properties which include the strengthening of the circulation, strengthening bones and easing arthritis pain. Goldstone is also said to promote optimism and personal development.
