Is Aquamarine a Good Choice for an Engagement Ring
Kirsty Norbury
Kirsty is a Jewellery Designer in our St Albans Studio and Shop. She has a 1st degree in textile design but telling a story through jewellery is where her skills shine.
Kirsty is now also Studio Lead in St Albans. After joining Harriet Kelsall Bespoke Jewellery in 2018 as a Design Assistant in North Herts, her aspirations grew. So, in 2023 she took the chance to be a part of the new St Albans Studio and Shop team. Since then, she’s thrived and become an integral part of the community atmosphere we’ve created there.
Her ambitions started when she studied BA Textile Design at Falmouth University, specialising in Mixed Media and specifically Embroidery Design. Whilst there she created numerous fashion fabric collections involving 3D elements for example beading and folding techniques. Upon finishing with a first-class honours degree, she subsequently exhibited the final collection at ‘New Designers’ , London.
After joining our team, Kirsty later completed a JET certification with the NAJ. Not only that but won the Clarity and Success Award for her project. This course taught new methods to improve and expand her knowledge. Above all, ways to weave exceptional innovation into every design, ensuring it’s a unique treasured piece for each person.
Kirsty first fell in love with storytelling through jewellery after her dad commissioned her graduation present from us! Initially, they wanted a ring that incorporated a tanzanite which he’d brought back from a trip to Tanzania. From the offset though, Kirsty’s talent was evident, sharing a clear vision of exactly how the stone could feature. Without a doubt, those qualities haven’t ceased but grow with each new commission, redesign and repair.
Now, Kirsty draws on the energy from being located in the St Albans High Street. In other words, each commission offers opportunities to further challenge and showcase design skills.
Ultimately, as someone who loves the construction process as much as the design, she’s inspired by our workshop. It’s fascinating working closely with them, considering the whole journey of her sketch becoming a real life, sentimental piece of jewellery.
