The Different Colours of Tourmaline
Emily Gilham
Emily is a Jewellery Designer in our Primrose Hill Studio and Shop. Her degree prepared her for this career, but her energy and love of bold gemstones is what sets her skills apart.
Since joining us at Harriet Kelsall Bespoke Jewellery in 2018 as a Jewellery Design Assistant, Emily has excelled. She’s now Studio Lead in Primrose Hill and continually demonstrates skills and enthusiasm for hand-sketching unique, inspirational pieces.
With a hobbyist woodworker grandfather as a role model, Emily’s interest in crafting and materials developed, leading to a degree at Buckinghamshire New University. Studies included 3D contemporary crafts and products which involved designing to briefs in metalwork, ceramics and glass blowing. Then, in the final year, she specialised in jewellery and exhibited work at New Designers. During her course, she won the ABPC Commercial Price at Pewter Live– The Worshipful Company of Pewterers. This consequently led to having a small collection of jewellery in production!
After graduating, Emily worked closely with a local jewellery designer and master pattern maker in the evenings. Whilst assisting with jewellery production, she learnt the ins and outs of a successful jewellery business. Not only that but also had a full-time job of hand carving and 3D printing hearing aids!
Becoming part of our team has without a doubt created space for her design abilities to grow, particularly through gemstones. Whether it’s commissions or ready to wear collection pieces, Emily confidently creates vibrant designs using an understanding of Colour Theory. This vision and innovation transforms into a remarkable sketch, and of course a piece perfectly representing each customer’s story.
