Bespoke white gold engagement ring with heat-treated green and natural cognac diamonds
John wanted Catriona to have an input into the design of her engagement ring design while also retaining an element of surprise. They had an appointment together to build a picture of what she likes and then Alice did a series of designs for him to chose from, leaving the final design a surprise for lucky Catriona! She loved green pear shaped stones, so John chose this stunning 7x5mm, 0.69ct, heat treated forest green diamond in an around setting. Trapped in the curl of the band is a 3mm brilliant cut natural cognac diamond, and a 2mm H SI brilliant cut white diamond on the other side in a tension style setting between the split natural 9ct white gold band. The ring measures 3mm at the sides, has a polished finish and is flat with a gentle curve on the outside. Coloured diamonds like this green one get their beautiful colours when they are heated at very high temperatures and pressures to achieve this permanent colour change. Natural occurring diamonds of this colour are very rare and cost many thousands of pounds and so this treatment process brings these coloured diamonds within reach. This also means that the ring must not be heated up to very high temperatures (eg by a jeweller during resizing of the ring) so special care needs to be taken when resizing this ring in the future and the stone must be carefully removed and re-set during any future resizing work.
