Artist inspired platinum engagement ring with white and heat-treated diamonds.
This was designed for a customer to give his partner as a complete surprise. He favours straight lines and contemporary forms but she favours organic fluid designs. Her favourite artists are Chihuly and Beatriz Milhaze. So this ring was designed with these inspirations and to be something that they will both love: the shapes and forms are ordered but sculptural with the three engraved lines either side of the diamond set area being taken from a theme of slim parallel lines that runs through some of Milhaze's work. This stunning engagement ring incorporates a 2mm, 1.75mm heat treated blue diamonds. This customer had a fanstatic eye for diamond quality and chose a DVS1 set of white diamonds which coprise a 0.71cts princess cut, 0.40cts brllaint cut and a 0.14cts brilliant cut. These have been set into all around settings which sit on the band which is approximately 3.5mm wide. Coloured diamonds like this get their beautiful colours when they are heated at very high temperatures and pressures to achieve this permanent colour change. Natural occurring diamonds of this colour are very rare and cost many thousands of pounds and so this treatment process brings these coloured diamonds within reach. This also means that the ring must not be heated up to very high temperatures (eg by a jeweller during resizing of the ring) so special care needs to be taken when resizing this ring in the future and the stone must be carefully removed and re-set during any future resizing work.
