Stonking Diamond

Written by on 21 April 2010

Working here at HK, I get to see some amazing stones, sometimes of a considerable size and value, but I have never seen a stone quite as stonking as this stunning pendant which was sold today at Bonhams, one of the oldest and largest auctioneers of fine art and antiques in New Bond Street, London.

Diamond Pendant

This stunning pendant weighs in an incredible 14.6 carats and was sold for a staggering £468,000!

Pear shaped stones are one of my personal favourites because they have fantastic sparkle and fire in the round part of the stone just like a brilliant or princess cut stone, but have a shape perfect for inspiring a dramatic or asymmetric designs. They can remain quite classical when set in a vertical fashion as in this diamond pendant above, but provide a slightly more unusual look than a round or square stone.

Here are some examples of our ready to wear engagement rings using this lovely shape. The first is in an organic, asymmetric type ring, set horizontally across the finger.

Palladium and diamond engagement ring

If you love diamonds but also like colour, how about this lovely pink coloured pear shaped diamond with an interesting shaped band?

Platinum and diamond engagement ring

Or if you love pears, but are more interested in drama and bright colour than diamonds, how about trying on this stunning plum tourmaline set?
