On the 21st November, Harriet Kelsall Bespoke jewellery will be hosting its annual Christmas Event, combining the launch of the new season’s Collections with a chance to celebrate the festive season, as well as raising funds for a local well deserving cause.
Many customers come to our studios to design jewellery that will no doubt show someone the extent of their love and adoration; they are designing engagement rings, wedding bands, even eternity rings. The celebration of life and love is moulded and designed into every commission we do. We translate affection into something of utter beauty. It is this affection and love that our chosen charity, Garden House Hospice, weaves into the last days of someone’s life after a long battle with illness.
In creating this peaceful and calming atmosphere, the hospice relies on the help and dedication of 500 volunteers. 500 people who give up their time to care for others, to tend to the gardens, iron the clothes or simply sit and comfort, every day, all day, and any day- even Christmas day. Over and above its government funding (which covers just 38% of the running costs), it needs to raise a further £2 million a year.
It seems such a vast sum of money and some may question why. Surely a home, caring for those in their dying days couldn’t possibly need that much money?
Twenty-five years ago, the Hospice was born, giving round the clock palliative care. Later its care package evolved to give day care; it grew further to provide complementary therapies and home care which it intends on extending even further to cover 24 hour periods. It offers bereavement counselling, educating families on how to care and cope in those final days. Its scope of care is giant and its impact even greater.
But what struck us most was how adamant Jo was, that laughter and joy always prevailed. Yes, she conceded, there are moments of sadness and grief but there is a celebration of life, the patients feel content, safe and at peace in the hands of the hardworking volunteers and nurses.
So on the 21st November, we will celebrate the festive season with glad tidings and joy but we do so in the hope of raising as much money as possible to donate to a cause so worthy and wonderful. A cause that is celebrating its Silver Anniversary with the much needed provision of care to those in our local community, stretching from Hitchin to Knebworth, and, a cause that Harriet Kelsall Bespoke Jewellery is proud, to be supporting.
With this in mind, we hope as many people as possible will attend our Christmas Event in aid of Garden House Hospice on the 21st November, 9.45-17.00. You will enjoy complimentary festive refreshments, there’s activities for the children with our special ‘Kids Jewellery Making Workshops’ (pre-booking advised) , Christmas shopping specials and the opportunity to watch our award-winning goldsmiths at work. We look forward to seeing you!
